Education & Training

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related services to eligible infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities.

  • "Early Childhood Services: a directory of services available to children with disabilities in Minnesota" provides information on local early intervention services to assist families and those working with young children with special health needs or disabilities.
  • PACER Center (Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights), based on the concept of parents helping parents, advocates for children and young adults with disabilities, and their families.
  • Minnesota Children with Special Health Needs (MCSHN) qualify for transition services that better prepare youth for life as productive, responsible adults in the community.
  • Every postsecondary school is responsible for providing students with disabilities the services they need in order to benefit from their education program of choice. However, what each institution offers may vary.
    • Contact the admissions office of the schools that you are interested in attending, to learn more about the services they offer.
  • Plan your education to consolidate your search for higher education and financial aid.
  • Explore assistive technology resources in order to get the most out of your education.
