For Parents and Educators
In the next ten years, nearly 75,000 baby boomers living in the northland will retire leaving gaping holes in our labor force. No longer will northlanders need to travel to the major metropolitan areas for high paying jobs; there will be abundant opportunities right here in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Medical assistants, dental assistants, plumbers, electricians, teachers, nurses, accountants, engineers, construction workers, welders, machinists, and many other technical and skilled workers will be in high demand.
These jobs, in industries like education, health care, aerospace, energy, transportation, technology, and manufacturing will offer wages and benefit opportunities that will not only allow your sons, daughters, or students to enjoy the quality of life in the northland, but to prosper, become homeowners and raise a family.
How can you help your son or daughter capture the opportunities ahead? Keep checking The Northland Works website.

Did you know...
- While the number of high school graduates will increase nationally in the next decade, it will decline in Minnesota by 10 percent.
- Since 1991, the U.S. has slipped from 2nd to 15th in the world in the proportion of youth going on to colleges and universities.
- Based on current trends, in ten years Minnesota will have 13,000 too few college graduates to meet its workforce needs.

Rapidly changing demographics and growing competition pose serious challenges for our state. But by acting now, we can safeguard our future prosperity and quality of life. Supported by concerned education, business and community groups, Learnmore was initiated by the Minnesota Private College Council. It seeks to promote discussion and identify new solutions to ensure that more Minnesota children succeed in school and pursue higher education — for their sakes and the sake of our state's future.

children — and our state — to flourish. You can be part of the solution. Let us know what you think by joining
