Exploring High-Demand Occupations
in Northwest Minnesota
Job availability is an important part of the career exploration process. MnCareers helps job seekers learn about statewide availability of specific occupations. But looking at regional job availability can help job seekers assess job markets close to home or in other areas of the state where they might want to relocate. These Web sites and the Regional Minnesota supplements to 2008 MnCareers provide an introduction to this region’s labor market.
How were these "in-demand" occupations selected?
The occupations featured here were selected because they are in high demand in their region of Minnesota — and are projected to stay that way. Most of these jobs also offer high pay compared to other occupations in the region. These are not, however, the only good opportunities in the region. Check out 2008MnCareers to see job availability and salary information for more than 200 occupations.
On the regional Web sites listed below, you will find charts with descriptions, employment, wages and education requirements for each featured occupation. The occupations were evaluated using regional data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (www.deed.state.mn.us/lmi/regional.htm), including recent industry growth trends, job vacancy survey results, wages, unemployment insurance activity and occupational projections. This Web site also provides data for other regions of the state.

Each regional Web site has a lot more information to help you choose a career path, plan your education or get job training in each region.
