Field of Study: Chemical Technology

Chemical technology programs prepare people to use science and math to do chemical research.

Chemical technology programs include topics such as:

  • Chemistry and biochemistry
  • Technical mathematics
  • Computer applications
  • Radiochemistry
  • Industrial biochemistry
  • Laboratory research methods
  • Test equipment operation and maintenance
  • Report writing

In chemical technology programs students may be able to specialize in:

  • Chemical engineering technology
  • Physical science technologies

Many community colleges and technical schools offer certificate and associate degree programs in chemical technology. A certificate program usually takes a year of full-time study. An associate degree program at a community college usually takes two years of full-time study to complete.

A few colleges and universities offer bachelor's degrees in chemical technology. A bachelor's degree usually takes about four years of full-time study.
