Prepare for Green Careers

The green jobs of the future will require workers with traditional skills as well as knowledge of current green technologies and practices.

What is "green knowledge?" Being successful in a green career or industry can require knowledge on these topics:

  • Energy efficiency. Understand the value and principles of energy conservation.
  • Waste management. Understand and identify operational waste, including minimizing waste and managing hazardous wastes.
  • Pollution control. Understand techniques to reduce and control pollution, including alternative energy sources.
  • Green materials knowledge. Know how to use green materials in the manufacturing or construction process.
  • Conservation management. Gain management skills for implementing or sustaining conservation practices or processes, including assessing facilities and auditing energy levels.
  • Sustainability assessments. Understand sustainability assessments, including performance measurements.
  • Globalization issues. Understand globalization issues involving green manufacturing.
  • Environmental policies. Knowledge of environmental policies or regulations (firm-specific or industry or government standard).
  • Clean technologies. Knowledge of innovative clean technologies and processes.
  • Green business practices. Understand green business methodologies, such as environmental cost accounting and carbon modeling.
