Industry Sectors

Employers with similar products or services are grouped into industry sectors. Industries are grouped using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Classifying employers by type helps economists collect, publish, and interpret industry data.

The NAICS describes industry activity in hotels and lodging places as follows:

Traveler Accommodations (NAICS 7211)

Hotels and motels, casino hotels, bed-and-breakfast inns, guest houses, housekeeping cabins and cottages, tourist homes, and youth hostels.

RV Parks and Recreational Camps (NAICS 7212)

Recreational vehicle parks and campgrounds, fishing and hunting camps, outdoor adventure retreats, travel trailer campsites, and vacation camps.

Rooming and Boarding Houses (NAICS 7213)

Rooming and boarding houses, fraternity houses, sorority houses, off-campus dormitories, residential clubs, and work camps.
