Hiring Practices

Employers usually require workers to be at least 18 years-of-age. Most employers prefer to hire applicants who have a high school diploma or GED.

Applicants must be able to physically do the job. Employers may require applicants to pass a physical exam or prove they can lift heavy boxes. Some employers also require applicants to pass a drug-screening test.

Employers look for people who are reliable and hard working.

Advancement Opportunities

Experienced packers and packagers who have good people skills may become supervisors. With additional training, they may move up to packing valuable, fragile, or dangerous items.
